Puerto de Pollensa, Mellorca, Islas Baleares, Spain 39° 54.2 N 03° 05.2 E
Last night it rained a little. Woke up this morning to broken clouds. We’re still waiting for the big storm. The locals say that offshore to the north where we want to go is pretty rough. We’re thinking about leaving tomorrow and heading straight to Cartagena, Spain and wait there for three days while the next system moves through.
1pm: Just got back from the Internet café and it turns out that geographically at Mellorca we are in the center of a large low-pressure system. The winds and waves north and to the east of us do in fact represent the current storm. We have not had much activity here because we are in the middle of and slightly to the west of it. We have decided to depart tomorrow and head to Ibiza, check the weather, hang out maybe and then head to Cartagena, Spain to wait out the next big system. There is a lot for us to do in Spain. We will go to a large marina right near a very historical waterfront.
The dinghy has a leak in the front chamber and I need to repair it. We removed the engine and hauled it on the dock. I am going to repair this tired, worn out dinghy and then we will use a halyard to put it up on the foredeck and lash it down. We don’t want it hanging off the davits on the transom for the next passages in case they are rough.
Yesterday we rented a car for half the day and went sight seeing. I told John that he is not allowed to damage this car. It was brand new and really nice inside. But, John true to nature found an unpaved road up in the hills that had an overlook that he couldn’t pass up. In his own words, this was virgin territory for him. John knows his way around this island and took us to some great places close-by.

This is the lighthouse that we saw from 20+ miles out the night we came in. |
Looking out the window of a popular restaurant in a very popular area. The lack of others is one of the benefits of the off-season. |
Aviation VOR (very high frequency omni-directional range) overlooking the marina. |
