86) somewhere offshore Venezuela

Flying fish on deck.

Sunset off Venezuela.
After sunrise I walk the deck to check things over.  It all depends on what time I get off watch when I walk the deck.  This morning after our first night at sea on this passage I counted 51 flying fish on deck.  John found one under the wheel in the cockpit and one in the galley.  In order to get in the galley it had to be about 6-8’ above the water and then fly thru the 3” opening.  Mucho gusto!

Offshore Venezuela.
I was on watch from 12-3am and John happened to be up and looked out to starboard and saw a freighter.  This one got our attention.  The white lights were lined up vertically and we could see both navigation lights.  It was coming straight at us.  It kept coming right at us.  We even sped up to full throttle and flashed the steaming light.  John asked if we were being intercepted.  We had the concern for this passage that there was the possibility of pirates and we thought this might be it.  Even as we sped up it kept turning at us.  When it was about 2-3 miles away it turned broadside and moved on past us.  This was the most uncomfortable freighter passing we have had to date.

Run-off from Rio Magdalena, Barranquilla, Columbia
