Bill,
Chasch Mer has a continuous cabin-top hand-hold that runs from the galley/step-up into the salon forward to the step-down that leads to the forward locker. I have a large 6" carabiner that conveniently holds my foulies. This is a great place to hang foulies as they stay on the center-line and well above the floor. I plan to have a light set and a heavy set of foulies knowing they will get wet.

...Sounds like a great idea. Is it a fairly dry boat? I've raced on boats that leaked like a sieve. Very miserable. Bill

Bill,
This boat is well maintained. I don't remember any drips. The only water inside came from a leaky transom thru-hull. I think it was the exhaust for the manual bilge pump and the hose separated from the fitting.
I do anticipate rain within several hundred miles of HI and will use a lighter set of foulies. Eventually, none of the gear will air dry. And, from memory, it never really dries in the tropics either; it just has that sticky feel to it.
I don't expect much rain close to CA but do expect the wet fog and low clouds. I am bringing a heavier set for the colder weather.
There probably is a place to hang gear in the aft section but we had 10 guys and I never used that area.

Watch systems under consideration:
Two six-hour watches during the day – 0600 to 1200, and 1200 to 1800. Meals at watch changes. Oldest watch does meal prep, new watch does cleanup.
Three four-hour watches at night – 1800-2200, 2200- 0200, 0200-0600. This way the day watches are alternated, so one watch doesn’t suffer all the hot afternoon watches in the latter stages of the race.
And, one adjustment: as the race goes on, dawn comes later and later, so the 0600-1200 watch becomes another night watch for the first one to three hours. It’s supposed to be a day watch. So, to adjust for our westing during the race, at approximately 1/3rd of the way, one of the two watches would stand an extra hour during the normally 4-hour 1800-2200 watch. Then, at about 2/3rds of the way, the other watch would do the same thing.
Each time one of these longer watches is scheduled, we can adjust the CA time of the watch schedule (e.g., 0700-1300, etc.), or just adjust our watches to reflect the effective local time, and keep the watch times the same (e.g., 0600-1200, etc.).
